Artwork title:
Stomata- The breathing pores of Life
Description:
Captured using a handheld Dino-Lite digital microscope as part of my PhD research, this image reveals stomata, the microscopic pores that regulate gas exchange and water loss in plants. By opening and closing, stomata control the uptake of carbon dioxide for photosynthesis while limiting water loss through transpiration, making them central to plant survival and drought tolerance. This image is part of my research to understand how differences in stomatal traits contribute to water-use efficiency in crops. No AI was used.

All these days we were left wondering how would stomata look like and how would the pores be so minute and yet be so busy exchanging CO2 and water for photosynthesis. Great work, this would go a long way in identifying genotypes that could display a high level of WUE and its time for breeders to look for and integrate this data into their scheme of things to breed new hybrids or cultivars.
